Green Tea from Umeda, Kiryu
The Kiryu River runs north to south through the textile city of Kiryu.
In the scenic town of Umeda, located further upstream, residents make sencha using tea leaves harvested from their own fields to share with family, relatives, and friends.
"Umeda Tea," which continues to be enjoyed only locally even today, is made exclusively from the first harvest of tea leaves, primarily of the Yabukita variety.
Because it is for personal consumption, it is not overly processed; it features a refreshing, rustic flavor nurtured by Umeda's abundant nature, characterized by a crisp bitterness and astringency.
