[Manager's comment]

Following on from Atlas, this is the second collaboration between Owl Mills and STATIC.

MURAKUMO is the flagship of not only STATIC but also Owl Mills sunglasses. The lenses and frames were developed specifically for this collaboration.

This is a must-have model for anyone looking for the best mountain sunglasses from a Japanese brand that can be used in harsh environments!

[Quote from manufacturer]

This product was developed through a joint project with the aim of creating "the best mountain sunglasses from a Japanese brand that can be used in harsh environments."

- Unique frame jointly developed by two companies: The frame was mainly supervised by STATIC, and the design was handled by OWL MILS

- Environmentally friendly: The frame is made from 45% plant-based materials, which has a low environmental impact.

- Equipped with the brand's best lenses: Lens development is carried out by a long-established lens manufacturer that produces MILS LENS under the supervision of STATIC.

The name comes from Ama no Murakumo no Tsurugi, one of the three sacred treasures, and embodies our desire to elevate the status of sunglasses in the world of gear.

The result is a top-of-the-line mountain model that is perfect for snowy mountains. In addition to polarized and high contrast, it features special lenses and side shields to ensure clear visibility, an eco-friendly frame, carabiner ends, and a glass cord.

[LENS]

We've developed the RED SHADOW lens, which offers high visibility and color reproduction even in the harsh environments of snowy mountains. While retaining the polarized and high-contrast functionality that's the OWL MILS lens' greatest feature, this lens is worthy of the evolved FLAGSHIP name. It suppresses red and orange wavelengths, enhancing the visibility of blue and green colors for greater clarity. Because it offers high visibility in cool colors, it's particularly effective when engaging in activities in snow or on snowy slopes.

[FRAME]

The brand's first 6-curve design!

In harsh environments, visibility can be a big concern, and the 4 curves in the current OWL MILS lineup tend to offer slightly less light blocking. For this reason, Murakumo has adopted the 6 curve, which offers the best balance between visibility and light blocking.

The frame is made of Rilsan® Clear, which contains 45% plant-derived ingredients and is lightweight, flexible, and highly resistant to chemicals, making it an ideal material for sunglasses frames.

Six-curve sunglasses may give off a sporty impression, but Murakumo has taken great care in the design, adding keyholes and other details to create a more casual look. Furthermore, by eliminating as many lines as possible from the frame itself, the sporty look is further reduced, resulting in a design that is not too sporty.

[DESIGN]

"Side shield designed for the snowy season"

It also features removable side shields to block sunlight from entering the eyes from the top and sides.

The combination of the curved frame and side shield parts provides excellent light blocking.

[The reason for the collaboration]

This collaboration began when STATIC asked if it was possible to recycle polyester and wool scraps and old clothes into sunglasses.

Because Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, a world-renowned eyewear production center, is located in Japan, we were able to directly consult with manufacturers with the technology and passion to create a recycling system, which was an advantage that allowed us to take advantage of our location. OWL MILS originally sold models that used recycled materials for some of the frames, and we have continued to explore systems for recycling and reusing sunglasses. This project with STATIC began several years ago with this shared vision.

In the field of eyeglasses and sunglasses, it is still considered difficult to recycle frames and lenses.

However, for this first model, we plan to collect and recycle damaged or unnecessary frames with the cooperation of the production factory. We will continue to work with STATIC in our environmentally friendly efforts.
